The Peak is the highest point on Hong Kong Island and a prestigious residential area. It was considered the place of choice to live in the early settlement days due to the cooler summer temperatures. However, it suffers extensive foggy periods in the spring months. Most accommodation here is low-rise, with many terraced and individual houses, together with spacious apartments, often with spectacular views. There are shops, restaurants and adequate public transport. The Peak Tram  - actually a funicular railway - has been hauling people between Victoria Peak and the Central business district since 1888.
